He was particularly celebrated for his portrayal of Constable Odo on the science fiction television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993–1999), a role that earned him critical acclaim and a dedicated fan following. In 1969, he originated the role of Sebastian Baye in the André Previn-Alan Jay Lerner musical Coco, opposite Katharine Hepburn.
