A year has passed since we last saw Prime Minister Birgitte Nyborg. In the season opener, Birgitte is visiting soldiers stationed in Afghanistan when their encampment is attacked, and several soldiers are killed. Now she must choose: send the troops home or stage a counterattack?

Prime Minister Birgitte Nyborg must appoint a new EU Commissioner. Sejro would seem the obvious choice, but Birgitte is surprised when he not only turns down the post but sees it as a personal slight. Who can she appoint?

The coalition government is preparing to introduce a new reform package - "A Common Future". But attempts to get agreement on the reforms causes Labour leader Bjørn Marrot serious problems - in the media and within his own party.

When Laura's psychiatrist suggests admitting her to a private psychiatric hospital, Birgitte and Phillip immediately agree. This move becomes problematic when Birgitte's own tax reforms force her to pay out of pocket for the hospital cost. At home, Birgitte and Phillip are rediscovering some of their lost love, despite Philip's continued relationship with Cecilie.

In the season finale, Birgitte is on a month leave from her post as prime minister to focus on family, and Hans-Christian Thorsen, Labor Party chairman, has positioned himself to be her possible successor. Birgitte is torn about whether or not she will return to work. Meanwhile, as Kasper and Katrine hunt for apartments together, their plan is derailed by an argument about the possibility of having children. Will one of them relent?

Two and half years later, Birgitte is traveling the world out of politics when suddenly the changing Moderate Party makes her want to return. The problem is, Krause, whom she sent away to EU, is the leader of the party now, and does not want her back. Sojro however tells Birgitte to oust Krause as a leader. Birgitte hires Kathrine to help her, and they try to get the votes together so Birgitte could once again become the leader of the Moderate Party.

Birgitte is keeping her plan to herself initially, but one by one she involves people. While some are enthusiastic, Sejro does not take the news well, even calling Birgitte a traitor. Meanwhile, Kathrine is struggling with the role of being a (working) mother.

Birgitte has attracted lots of followers to her party, but the policy has not been set yet and there is no money. A banker offers a donation of one million but is there a catch? Meanwhile the team is searching for a spokesperson on immigration to debate on TV and Kathrine struggles with her feelings for Kasper.

Birgitte struggles to get her party recognized particularly by other politicians, but might have a chance to change it when her boyfriend gets sick and is exposed by the media. Meanwhile, Kathrine continues to struggle with her feelings for Kasper who has difficult time understanding why her behavior has changed.

Being accepted as a political party, New Democrats must take a stand on a controversial issue of banning buying sex. Through learning about the issue both Birgitte and Kathrine face their prejudices and their views on the issue change as they get personally more involved. It also affects their personal relations.

When the New Democrats are invited to join a broad coalition of opposition parties they think it is the recognition they have been seeking. But Birgitte soon finds she has no bargaining power whatsoever, much to Nete's disgust.

Birgitte quickly realizes that the New Democrats are now minor players in the opposition coalition and she pulls them out of it. The Moderates seem to be proposing things that Birgitte has privately discussed - is there a mole?

After the leaks to the Moderates, Birgitte decides that the New Democrats need to distinguish themselves from the Moderates. So in a debate she launches a bold attack on their leader Jacob Kruse - will her strategy work?

Kruse's outburst in the pre-election debate proves fatal to the Moderates and the New Democrats pick up more than double the predicted seats. Suddenly, Birgitte is being courted by both the left and right wing coalition groups.

Birgitte Nyborg is the newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs when oil is suddenly found in Greenland. Nyborg ran on a Green agenda, and for her there is no doubt that the oil project must be shut down as quickly as possible, but voices in Greenland - led by the Greenlandic Minister, Hans Eliassen - are, however, of a completely different opinion and so is Nyborg's boss, Prime Minister Signe Kragh.

Birgitte Nyborg receives crucial information about the Russian owners of the company which is drilling for oil in Greenland. Asger Holm Kirkegaard, who is now on Greenlandic soil, is trying to help his minister while also trying to keep Hans Eliassen in check. Nyborg is called to the Foreign Policy Board, and to help a close ally, Nyborg decides to use a bold tactic which turns out to have greater consequences than she could have ever imagined.

After her statements in the Foreign Policy Board, Birgitte Nyborg is threatened by a vote of no confidence, and when one of the Folketing's North Atlantic mandates expires, the government's majority begins to crumble. Nyborg now has two options: Either she must resign and stand by her ideals. Or she and thus also the government must change policy and suddenly advocate for the exploitation of oil. Moreover, she discovers that her son Magnus has suddenly become an additional political burden for her.

In the negotiations with Greenland regarding the distribution of oil revenues, Asger Holm Kirkegaard must play Birgitte Nyborg on the field, but the negotiation meeting with Nyborg is far from going as planned. Fønsmark has found decisive evidence that Nyborg lied to the Foreign Policy Board, and is trying with all her might to hold Nyborg responsible for her breach of the Ministerial Accountability Act. In his eagerness to achieve his journalistic goal, Fønsmark creates conflicts internally on TV1.

The Chinese delegation is making plans for oil extraction directly with the Greenlanders. Birgitte Nyborg's change of attitude has left her without quite a few political friends, and she is now also called to a meeting with the US Secretary of State, who demands that Nyborg intervene against China's actions in Greenland. Rumors about Katrine Fønsmark's leadership style are starting to swirl in the media, and she makes a drastic decision to stop it.

The government is celebrating its first 100 days in power, but at the same time the unrest in New Democrats is rising. The Sirius Patrol is sent off to investigate a crashed drone, and suddenly they face unknown soldiers ... Asger Holm Kirkegaard and Emmy Rasmussen follow the events closely from the Arctic Command's headquarters, and the fateful hours bring them together once again. But this time they are discovered.

The unrest in New Democrats continues to rise, but Birgitte Nyborg stubbornly maintains to support the government's policy of advocating the exploitation of Greenlandic oil. The collaboration with Michael Laugesen becomes even closer, and together they lay out tactics for how Nyborg should get its party to conform. But Nyborg is not the only one in New Democrats who plays tactically.

The decisive battle for the kingdom, power and honor must stand, and Birgitte Nyborg faces the biggest political challenge in her career, as she is challenged for the chairmanship of New Democrats. At the same time, Signe Kragh sends her to Greenland to sign the agreement on oil extraction. But the trip to Greenland will have a greater impact on Nyborg than anyone could have foreseen. At the same time, it is as if Katrine Fønsmark's world is falling apart.
